Africa's stories, told with truth, depth, and imagination

Jele Oseaga-Ikuenobe is a young Nigerian author, speaker, and champion of authentic African storytelling. He founded Mirroring Our World on a simple belief: that Africa’s stories should be told with honesty, joy, and diversity, and that the world’s truest picture of Africa will emerge when Africans, particularly African children, tell those stories themselves.

At eleven, Jele delivered a TEDx talk on African representation in children’s literature, becoming one of the youngest speakers to address cultural identity and publishing on that stage. His talk drew on his own experience of growing up as an African reader who rarely saw his world reflected in the books around him.

Jele began writing at seven and published his first book at ten. The foreword to that book was written by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, then Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who personally reviewed the manuscript of the young author. He has since published four children’s books, all available worldwide, including The Adventures of Koko & Jake, a beloved series featuring two African friends navigating everyday life with warmth, curiosity, and humour. The series was born from Jele’s desire to see ordinary African childhood on bookshelves.

Now fourteen, Jele is writing his first middle-grade series, reflecting his own growth as a reader and writer. Through Mirroring Our World, he is building the infrastructure; the workshops, the resources, the mentorship, and the community- to make authentic African storytelling the norm, not the exception.
